The history of pantyhose, as for stockings, is tied to that of changes in styles of women's hemlines. Before the 1920s, it was generally expected that women would cover their legs in public, including their ankles; and dress and skirt hemlines were generally to the ground. The main exceptions were in sports and entertainment. In the 1920s, fashionable hemlines for women began to rise, exposing the legs to just below the knees. Stockings also came into vogue to maintain leg coverage, as well as some level of warmth. The most popular stockings were sheer hosiery which were first made of silk or rayon (then known as "artificial silk"), and after 1940 of nylon, which had been invented by DuPont in 1938. During the 1940s and 1950s, stage and film producers would sew stockings to the briefs of their actresses and dancers, as testified to by singer-actress-dancer Ann Miller.[3][4] These garments were seen in popular motion pictures such as Daddy Long Legs.
The origin of the term G-string is obscure. It may simply stand for 'Gusset' as the G-String is in effect just a gusset on a string. Since the 19th century, the term geestring referred to the string which held the loincloth of American Indians[21] and later referred to the narrow loincloth itself. William Safire in his Ode on a G-String quoted the usage of the word G-string for loincloth by Harper's Magazine 15 years after Beadle's and suggested that the magazine confused the word with the musical term G string (i.e., the string for the G note). Safire also mentions the opinion of linguist Robert Hendrickson that "G" (or "gee") stands for groin, which was a taboo word at the time.[22]

Up until this time, there was little reason for women outside show business to wear "panty hose", as the longer hemlines allowed for the use of over-the-knee stockings secured with a garter belt. Nonetheless, during the 1960s, improved textile manufacturing processes made pantyhose increasingly more affordable, while man-made textiles such as spandex (or elastane) made them more comfortable and durable. The advent of the fashionable miniskirt, which exposed the legs to well above the knee, made pantyhose a necessity to many women. In 1970, U.S. sales of pantyhose exceeded stockings for the first time, and it has remained so ever since.[8] Pantyhose became a wardrobe staple throughout the 1970s and 1980s.

One type of thong is the G-string, the back of which consists only of a (typically elasticized) string.[2] The two terms G-string and thong are often used interchangeably; however, they can refer to distinct pieces of clothing. Thongs come in a variety of styles depending on the thickness, material or type of the rear portion of fabric and are available for both men and women throughout most of the world.

Lisa Buhler, founder of Lisa Says Gah, told us that she’s a big fan of Swiss lingerie brand Hanro for its “luxe fabrics and classic designs.” (The brand also came up when we talked to some cool and stylish women about their favorite bathrobes.) If the price of the Hanro bikini is a little steep, Buhler suggests Everlane’s underwear, which she says has a similar design to Hanro at a fraction of the price.
First, the lost star is only due to the thong part no being long/stretchy enough. This did an excellent of smoothing out my tummy and back beneath my bra. I am please with how comfortable it is; but it is still shapewear, so I know I'm wearing it. The silicone was easily adjustable and did a great job of staying in place. If you will be mostly doing one thing - sitting, walking, standing etc - then this is a great smoothing option. However, if you'll be switching positions a lot, then the thong may become uncomfortable. I wore this at work (mostly sitting) and on a Sunday afternoon nature walk (mostly walking) and was perfectly comfortable. Unfortunately, a date night that involved standing at a bar, sitting at dinner, then standing and sitting at a party was not so pleasant because the thong would ride up whenever I moved. It is a good option if you're looking for a midsection smoother without pantylines.

There is no shortage of underwear options, either. There is a fit for every need and mood. If you require a thong for an unforgiving skirt, boyshorts for lounging around at home or cheeky panties for your jeans, they are all available. Like bras, panties are sold in solid colors. They are also sold with lace, floral patterns and strappy details. Sometimes a plain pair of panties is best. Other times, you may want to be adventurous, cute or sexy. The good news is that there are panties for all occasions.
Change your thong on a daily basis. One of the problems that sometimes occurs with wearing thongs, is that they may spread bacteria faster than regular underwear, which can cause infections. Because the thong is touching both the anus and the vulva, bacteria can travel much easier between the two, especially when your thong shifts in position throughout the day. This isn’t a problem for most women, but if you experience yeast or bacterial infections frequently, you may need to switch thongs more often.[3]

I love Cosabella products. They are always well made, very attractive and comfortable to wear. The Never say Never Skimpie Lace G-String has all of these qualities. The lace front panel is sheer and very soft (not scratchy) and the wide elastic waste band will not cut into your sides and hips. Although the coverage is minimal, it should provide just enough coverage for those needing it.
For something a little more colorful, take a note from Harrington, who says her “favorite underwear brand of all time is Egretta Garzetta.” She told us that because of a nerve condition, her everyday underwear has to be made from natural fibers, and the brand’s cotton and viscose briefs have been an “absolute godsend.” And although the price is higher than, say, a pair from the Gap, the quality of these is also very high, according to Harrington. “Seriously, this is the highest-quality underwear I own,” she says. “I first purchased from this brand back in 2014, and my underwear is still holding up and looking great; no fraying, no holes, just pure cotton softness.”
There are many other varieties of fundoshi as the variations on the principle of a loincloth are almost infinite. For example, the mokko-fundoshi (literally "earth-basket loincloth" because it looks like the traditional baskets used in construction) is made like the etchyuu-fundoshi but without a front apron; the cloth is secured to the belt to make a bikini effect. The kuro-neko fundoshi (literally "black cat fundoshi") is like the mokko-fundoshi except that the portion that passes from front to back is tailored to create a thong effect.
Viewed from the front, the thong typically resembles a bikini bottom, but at the back the material is reduced to a minimum. Thongs are almost always designed to cover the genitals, anus and perineum and leave part or most of the buttocks uncovered. The back of the garment typically consists of a thin waistband and a thin strip of material, designed to be worn between the buttocks, that connects the middle of the waistband with the bottom front of the garment.[1] It is also used as a descriptive term in other types of garment, such as a bodysuit, bodystocking, leotard or one-piece swimsuit in the context "thong backed".
In American English, the term "tights" typically refers to pantyhose-like garments made from thicker material, which are generally opaque or slightly translucent. Opaque leg wear made of material such as spandex are often worn by both sexes for athletic activities or as utility clothing, and are usually referred to as "leggings", a term that includes casual wear. The primary difference between tights and leggings is that leggings can be worn as outerwear, whereas tights are not. In most cases, leggings will have a seam on the inside of the leg, whereas the legs of tights will be seamless.
Pantyhose have been criticized for being flimsy because the thin knit fabric is prone to tearing or laddering (or "running").[9] The wearer can cause a run in the hose by catching a toenail in the fabric when the hose is put on, by catching it on a rough surface like a corner of a desk, or a car, and by numerous other risks. Some women apply clear nail polish or hair spray to their hose to prevent runs from growing.
I’m 5’3” 145lbs and the O/S plus fit OK. It’s big but I hate tight thongs. I’m going to cut the back and just sew it back together to customize the fit. I just didn’t think the other size would fit. Unfortunately there were only 2 choices and I really like the accessibility of this style! I’d only buy again if I can’t find more size options in a similar style.
In the past, lingerie was intended to help shape a woman's figure. Obviously, today's shapewear has evolved, although the basic principles are the same. Nowadays there is shapewear for all shapes and sizes, and it's designed to help women smooth their silhouettes. This is the foundation garment that keeps everything tight and smooth — unapologetically so. Control slips, modern corsets and tummy shapers are three of the options available. Full body shapers, arm shapers and shaping camis are additional pieces. Most shapers are available in black, nude and white, although you can sometimes find them in fun prints and bold colors too.

In 1953, Allen Gant, Sr., of Glen Raven Knitting Mills developed a commercial equivalent to these hose that he named "Panti-Legs", but these were not brought to the open market until about 1959.[5] During this time, Ernest G. Rice invented his own design for pantyhose similar to those worn today, and in 1956 he submitted a patent titled "Combination Stockings and Panty".[6] This design was adopted by other makers, and this caused disputes in U.S. courts for many years before the patent was upheld some time after Rice's own death.[7]
Lena Dunham told us that she loves “a slightly baggy, but fun underpant,” and called out these Joe Boxer string bikinis as ones that fit the bill. “Joe Boxer was cool and hip when I was 12, and now it’s a Kmart property. Leaving aside the ethical implications of that, I fucking love the underwear,” Dunham says. She told us she orders the bikinis in a large to get her preferred loose fit. “A medium might be more supportive of my butt, but this gives me a little tail,” she says. “A six-pack of three solids and three patterns for me is the perfect balance.”
Hosiery is a class of tight-fitting garments worn on the legs and/or feet. For the most part, hosiery has a knit construction. So, socks, anklets, pantyhose, fishnets, nylons, leggings, tights and stockings all fall under the hosiery category. Available in different colors, textures, opacities, styles and even shapewear control levels, hosiery is a great way to transform an outfit and make a statement as well as give your legs a subtle, polished look.
When we talked to model, actress, and entrepreneur Amber Rose about the things she can’t live without, she told us a story about going underwear shopping: “So my friend Chyna, we were at Neiman’s the other day, and I was picking out some La Perla underwear,” said Rose. “They were like $120, and Chyna is like, ‘What the hell are you doing? Why are you buying such expensive underwear?’ And I was like, ‘Girl this is going to change your life,’ so I bought her a pair.” If you’re on the fence about splurging on pair of underwear, Rose makes a compelling case for doing so. “I know this sounds crazy, but wearing expensive underwear under your clothes gives you a certain type of confidence in a really cool way.”

Pantyhose generally have a standard construction: the top of the waist is a strong elastic; the part covering the hips and the buttocks (the panty area) is composed of a thicker material than for the legs. The gusset or crotch covering the vulva is a stronger material, sometimes made of porous cotton, but the legs of the pantyhose are made of the thinnest usable fabrics, and it has a consistent construction down to the wearer's toes. These can be reinforced to guard against wear and tear.
